Moths
Moths are trapped regularly during the summer and autumn and are detailed in the annual reports for the year. The species list is not as extensive as in other parts of Britain, but many of the local resident species are of a local (and usually dark) variant. A few migrant species occur each year, including Hummingbird and Convolvulus Hawkmoths, and there are additions to the list in most years, including the most northerly British records for some species. A recent feature has been an annual influx of Magpie moths, including over 100 in 2007, being unknown on the isle before the late 1990s
A summary of all Lepidoptera recorded on Fair Isle up to the end of 2020 is available here.
